Theater Education & Admin Intern
Intern duties may include supporting the day-to-day administrative work of the theater department, assuming the role of assistant to the director for one of the summer musical theater productions, working as a teaching assistant for various summer camp programs, representing the Patel Conservatory at community events, assisting the stage manager with rehearsals and show runs, assisting with various front-of-house roles, the hang and focus of lighting equipment, maintenance on show props and costumes, performing supporting roles inchildren’s shows and special projects as assigned.
Participants of the Patel Conservatory summer internship have gone on to work for professional companies including the Barter Theatre, Jobsite Theatre, Timeless Tales Theatre and Opera Tampa. Working for the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center provides emerging theater artists and educators the opportunity to network with theater professionals and research careers in the industry.
Applicants must be actively enrolled at a university, seeking a degree in the performing arts and have completed their sophomore year of college. First year graduates will be accepted into the program. Applicants must also have a strong interest in theater education, the direction of youth theater productions and/or technical theater. Summer applicants must be able to commit to 40 hours per week for 12 consecutive weeks between June and August. All interns must be at least 18 years or older and successfully complete a criminal background check before beginning their internship.
